Spring Film Releases – February to April
2015 ended on a high in the film world. Legend, The Hateful Eight, The Martian and the most anticipated film of the year Star Wars the Force Awakens all contributed to a fantastic cinematic year. We’re all still on a buzz from Star Wars, so how can 2016 match up with last year’s fantastic films? Well trust us you’re spoilt for choice, the year has already got off to a brilliant start with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant. If you haven’t seen it, shame on you there was a big Bear brawl and it inspired a piece of artwork by Luke. DiCaprio, Hardy and Director Alejandro Iñarrítu are going to be hard to follow, however the rest of the year is flooded with big action films, remakes and sequels that’ll you won’t want to miss.
Here are some of the films we recommend you head out to see between February & April.
Deadpool – 10th February
Have you been living under a rock? Answer no, well then you should have definitely heard all the buzz about Deadpool. It’s the first big Superhero film of the year but it’s not your usual hero. With it’s general release yesterday (10th February), there has already been a lot of positive reviews. If you’re unsure about the film here’s a bit of background info, Ryan Reynolds stars as Deadpool. He originally played the cocky, smart mouthed version of the character in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. It wasn’t great and no-one loved the character, fast forward and Reynolds portrayed the Green Lantern which was also a shamble of a film. With much skepticism about this film we’ve been waiting for this release to see if Director Tim Miller and Reynolds have been able to deliver the goods. If this initial reception and the trailer are anything to go by it is going to be a refreshing change from the usual Superhero films being released.
Zoolander 2 – February 12th
It’s had more coverage than a lot of films in recent years, with a cover on Vogue, an appearance at Paris Fashion Week during Valentino’s show, to countless articles across the internet. Zoolander and Hansel return with a new mystery to solve and more pretty faces to protect from the evil and hysterical Mugatu. Ben Stiller returns as director and he brought all of Hollywood with him. Stiller is Zoolander. Wilson is Hansel. Ferrell is Mugatu. All the big names are returning to play their infamous roles and they’ll be joined by tons of celebrity cameos, with Justin Bieber, Benedict Cumberbatch & Kanye West to name a few.
Hail Caesar – 4th March
The Coen Brothers are the best directing duo in Hollywood much like Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers are renowned for their particular vision and unique style. They bring their distinct look and vibe to everything they do. The Coens have blessed us with a glorious catalogue of movies in the past however their latest film has had a slow opening weekend in the US. The film follows a 50’s set-tale of a major film star gone missing and is a look at vintage Hollywood. With an all Star studded cast including Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Jonah Hill, and Ralph Fiennes you’ve got what sounds like a recipe for the Oscars. With rave reviews from critics it looks to be another classic from the Directing Duo and worth a watch.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – 25th March
Ever wondered who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman? Now you don’t have to ponder this, as you can see them having a scrap. Ultimately this leads to the two teaming up & forming the Justice League, with Wonder Woman making an appearance too. This has been a sore subject for a number of Batman fanatics with the brilliance of the Nolan films, some fans have been sceptical about it’s release. However Zack Snyder, Director of the latest Superman film, is also Director of this flick and although it can’t compare to the Nolan films it’s sure to be an explosive watch. With Ben Affleck starring as Bruce Wayne with Henry Cavill returning as Superman.
The Jungle Book – 15th April
We’re all Bill Murray fans at BH HQ and knew the casting to voice Baloo was perfect in this CGI version of the Disney Classic. It follows the same story as that of the Disney film even with a glimpse of Baloo singing the Bear Necessity song during the trailer. This is another film that has cast a lot of big names for the characters as mentioned Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johassen as Kaa, Christopher Walken as the Leader of the Orangutans and Ben Kingsley lends his vocal talents to Bagheera. With Disney moving into more live action versions of it’s Classic Films, this retake will certainly be a film everyone can enjoy.
